ABSTRACT

This study underlined the importance to examine the CF practices and its related determinants for providing information and further preparation for the possibility of another outbreak in the future. The participants are 192 mothers, who are mostly employed by private individuals and housewives. About 61.5% of them think that the information about CF was available during the outbreak. Most of them also continue to breastfeed their children. CF is a set of general principles that describe the activities and practices that a mother should follow when breastfeeding her child. It is generally fulfilled through the following five phases: starting the CF at 6 months, meeting the minimum dietary frequency, increasing the texture, and practicing good hygiene. This study confirms the findings of a previous systematic review that maternal knowledge about CF is a contributing factor to the family's CF practice. It also explains how CF knowledge can affect the selection and supply of food for the family. The point of household food security is the most crucial factor that influences the practice of infant and young child feeding (IYCF). This study revealed that children who live in food-secure households are more likely to have the appropriate practices. Although the factors not related to CF practices were not significant, household food security was the main determinant of the socioeconomic status. Information availability and maternal education are both important components of a mother's knowledge. However, their relationship is not significant. This study shows that improving maternal education and the availability of information is not associated with the improvement of mother knowledge.
